International design and innovation firm CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati has unveiled the future office for Italian pharmaceutical company Zambon. The “Sunny Inside” project pushes the boundaries of biophilic design with a series of special features, such as an innovative illumination system to bring natural light in buildings, hydroponically grown green areas and spaces for natural silence. The “Sunny Inside” offices have been built inside the Z-Life Zambon campus in Bresso (Milan), whose architecture project was designed by AMDL Circle (Michele de Lucchi).
Zambon’s new offices incorporate the latest LED SunLike technology, which mimic the spectral power distribution of the sun, reproducing it within the boundaries of the office and blurring the traditional distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces. Alongside sunlight, plants enter the workspace, enriching desks and common areas, and further improving workers’ well-being.
This project continues CRA’s ongoing experimentation with innovative workspaces. Previous projects include the redesign of Fondazione Agnelli in Turin, Italy, characterized by a reconfigurable open space where people can select their environmental preferences, creating a series of personalized thermal bubbles, and VITAE, a mixed-use development that will include a system of offices connected to greenhouses and urban orchards and will bring a 200-meter-long vineyard into the heart of Milan.
