Nowadays, Sao Paulo, as well as the rest of the world, finds itself at a crossroad. A civil industry powered by oil and other fossil fuels is coming to an end, leaving behind a massive wave of unemployment together with environmental degradation. In parallel, alternative industrial fashions have been emerging, driven by the sprawl of the Internet and the introduction of new renewable energy systems into the market, which is what is now being recognized as the 3rd Industrial Revolution.
Driven by the idea of the mobile city, which states that citizens should be able to shape their environment, Arco Tietê will develop an interface between the physical and the digital world, enhancing the interaction between the public space, visitors and local inhabitants.
The digital layer is made up of individual sensors placed throughout Arco Tietê. These could include existing and newly embedded sensors in different utilities, including public transport and parking. These sensors would feed real-time data directly to the network through a combination of wired, wireless or cellular communications, providing feedback to the city and a platform offering live information and services to citizens.
Augmenting the site with a digital overlap of activities beyond traditional uses will further enhance an on-going exchange of data that could result in an environmental and socially inclusive dynamic, functioning as a means not only to exchange information but also to gather it and understand its patterns.
